Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide won their third national title in four years as they rolled the top-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish 42-14 in the 2013 Discover BCS National Championship.
The Tide becomes the first team to win back-to-back BCS championships and the victory extends the SEC’s streak to seven straight national titles (longest streak ever by any conference).
‘Bama’s balanced attack got rolling early and often as Alabama finished with exactly 264 yards rushing and passing with the help of the Tide’s scary front five on the offensive line.

Quarterback A.J. McCarron fired on all cylinders, completing 20 of 28 passes for 264 yards with four TDs and no INTs. The offensive MVP, RB Eddie Lacy, rushed for 140 yards and a score and averaged 7.0 yards on 20 carries in the game.
T.J. Yeldon also compiled 108 hard-fought yards on the ground with a touchdown on 21 attempts (5.1 YPC).
There are plenty of adjectives that could be used to describe the Tide’s thrashing of the Irish in Miami. Perhaps Brent Musburger said he best when he said “What a road kill.” If you recall in last year’s national title, Musburger coined the phrase, “this is a mauling folks.”
Notre Dame entered Monday evening with one of the nation’s top defenses across the board and hadn’t allowed a single drive of at least 80 yards all season. Against Alabama, the team surrendered four drives of 80 yards or more.
The loss also moves the Irish to 0-4 in BCS bowl games (each loss was by 14 points or more).
Credit the Irish for a fantastic regular season, but the Irish made the Tide look like an NFL team in comparison.
