The first five weeks of the 2014 college football season are in the books and the Heisman Trophy race is already starting to take shape. It’s obviously still early and several of the Top 25 teams have yet to face serious tests, but Heisman campaigns are fed in the first half of the season when star players at skill positions often feast on less-than-impressive non-conference opponents.
There have also been plenty of surprisingly close, hard-fought battles (and some upsets) across the college football landscape that have featured several of this year’s preseason Heisman favorites while many other emerging contenders for the stiff-armed trophy have been presented with a golden opportunity to make a name for themselves on a big national stage against ranked teams.
